In my opinion, obstacles shape us no matter what walk of life we find ourselves in. Even though we've finished reading this novel, I stumbled upon this post and made a connection with Streetcar. I think Blanche's character is the way she is because certain obstacles, whether it be the loss of Belle Reve or her late husband's suicide, irreversibly changed her into the person who she was when she found herself in Stanley and Stella's hands.
